How to Make a Morito Cocktail

The Morito is a twist on your traditional Mojito.  This recipe was given to to me by @cooklocally on Twitter.  What makes the Morito different from a traditional Mojito is that you use Lemon and Basil instead of Lime and Mint.  This is a crisp and refreshing drink great for a hot summer day.  If you find a Mojito too sweet give this one a try; It uses much less sugar. I think you'll really like it.  To make a Morito add to a glass:

  • 1 Large Basil Leaf
  • 2 slices of Lemon
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar

Gently, muddle the ingredients to bring out the oils and juice from the Lemon and Basil. Be careful to not tear the Basil.

Then, add:

  • 1 oz Vodka
  • Ice
  • Top with Tonic

Pour the drink into a shaker and then back into the glass to mix it up. Enjoy!

When I first read this recipe I was a bit skeptical about how Basil would taste in a cocktail, but I was sure surprised.  The Lemon and Basil go really well together.  I'll definitely be making this one on a regular basis.

Thanks, @cooklocally for the suggestion. If you have a drink suggestion for me let me know. I'm @LetsTiki on Twitter or email me using our Contact Us form.
